Despite the fact that there are many countries with a higher standard of living, more welfare, less crime, and no war?

Most Americans think that the USA is the best country for them.
Now, most people think their place of birth, their home is the best for them. To say any country is the best in the world is illogical and absurd. There is no such place.

it may not be the best country. Yours is a very subjective question. I will say it is the best country for me. I have freedoms that many countries lack. I used to travel and everywhere I went the people would tell me how good the USA is. Of course I expect anyone and everyone to be patriotic toward their own country. In closing I would like to say this:If America is so bad and so evil and so forth then why do so many want to come here to live and work. AMERICA: LOVE IT OR LEAVE IT!
sign me a patriot

Although we may not always agree with the political climate, I think in general, Americans are satisfied and happy to live here. We still ascribe to the Four Freedoms and the Constitution that allows us freedoms and opportunities that are missing in other countries. We all have choices to better our living standards. That is up to the people and not the government. The majority of people here are good citizens who are law-abiding, who go to church, pay taxes and donate to charities. You'll find good and bad in all countries. Apparently you are not from this country and you think yours is better. That's okay, and that's how you should feel. But I can only speak for Americans, and if given a choice, I think they would still pick this country for their home. Thanks for asking.

There are several countries I feel are equal to America. Australia and New Zealand for two. Spain for another. Canada. Great Britain. Their all free democratic countries where any American can feel right at home.

1) proud American/embarrassed American
2) was impressed with a portion of Mexico that I recently travelled: discovered zero panhandeling--rather, they make crafts and sell them for a few Pesos apiece. I am embarrassed for my fellow US citizens.
3) Americans are snobs and think they deserve the sun, moon and the stars
4) a good number of Americans believe the rest of the world should be like us. (Horseshit thinking!)
5) Americans are insatiable--they'll trade up their BMW for a better BMW
6) Americans are in a nation with a huge deficit--hundreds of trillions and counting! (thx Bush...)
7) nonetheless, I am still proud to be an American, but I am not blind to the beautiful elements of the other nations.
I hope this answers your question.
Peace...
