I am 23 have been pregnant once. I lost baby at 6 weeks. Didnt know my uterus was tilted until my prenatal exam. Is it more difficult to conceive with a tilted back uterus? because i have been TTc since loss of baby in Oct, and nothing yet. and is it also harder to carry with it being tilted?

from wikipedia:
Uterin position has no effect on fertility. A tipped uterus will usually right itself during the 10th to 12th week of pregnancy.

If a uterus does not right itself, it may be labeled persistent. "Persistent retroflexion of the pregnant uterus is incompatible with advanced pregnancy. If spontaneous or artificial reposistion does not occur, the patient either aborts or develops symptoms caused by incarceration of the uterus before the end of the fourth month. In exceptional instances, however, pregnancy may proceed, resulting in uterine sacculation. Spontaneous delivery is impossible, and rupture of the uterus may occur."[1]

something to note - there is a little know form of massage known as Mayan Abdominal Massage - that is said to be able to put a uterus back in position if it is "tilted"...

I too have a tilted uterus. It took me 11 months to concieve. I tried some advice (that I initially thought sounded silly - but it may or may not have been the key, it's worth a shot right?) The advice I was given is that because your uterus may be tilted forward (instead of the usual backwards tilt) you should reverse the suggestion of laying on your back with a pillow under you bum for 20 mins or longer, I started laying on my belly with the pillow under me and got pregnant right away, like I said it might have been a coincidence but it's worth a shot. (and as soon as I did this I got pregnant, and had been trying for 10 months prior to this) Good luck!! I hope you get your BFP soon! *edit* knkim02 - having a tilted uterus does not make it harder for the doctor to hear the heartbeat, your uterus goes to "normal" as it grows during pregnancy, it also does not cause miscarriage. brwneyed - please don't let these answers scare you, people do have miscarriages all the time but it is not due to this condition.

Will a tilted uterus make it harder to conceive?

Answer: No. The ability of the sperm to get through your uterus has nothing to do with its position. It's based on the sperm's ability to swim, the consistency of your cervical mucus when the sperm is released, and other factors.

In fact, having a tilted uterus is a normal anatomical variation, just like eye or hair color. In most women, the uterus tips slightly forward (anteverted), toward the bladder, but in some women, it tilts backward (retroverted), toward the spine.

That said, a retroverted uterus may signal an underlying condition such as endometriosis or pelvic inflammatory disease, which can affect fertility. These conditions — not the angle of the uterus — can make it harder for you to get pregnant. They can create scar tissue that may make it more difficult for the egg to get through the Fallopian tube to unite with the sperm.

If you're experiencing pain during sex or painful periods, your ob-gyn can do a simple physical exam to determine whether a tilted uterus may be causing the problem. Treatment usually isn't necessary unless there's an underlying condition. Treating endometriosis or pelvic inflammatory disease can reduce the chances that your uterus will tilt and can improve your fertility. Some women find pain relief through a minimally invasive procedure called UPLIFT uterine suspension, which repositions the uterus. Not all doctors agree that this procedure is necessary, however.

I have a tilted uterus and I conceived the first time I tried. My doctor told me it has nothing to do with conceiving or birthing a baby.

My doctor told me about 33% of women have the tilted-forward orientation, 33% have tilted-backward orientation, and 33% have the "regular" orientation. Mine is tilted back and bicornuate, plus I have endometriosis, and once I got pregnant I didn't have any real problems till late in labor. My mom's is tilted back too. So don't worry--the orientation shouldn't hurt anything.

Mines tilted and I just had my 5th baby. All pregnancies were normal. Good Luck.
