I guess it would depend on what you know about the car for 1,500.00 , you could end up having to do repairs on it also, my hubby and I paid 300.00 for a 92 model and we just had to put new tires on it and a new alt and a new water pump, but it gets great milage and is basicaly in great running condition now, when you buy used and older it is a toss up to you, quess it depends on what is wrong with the auto you have now... That is a question only you can answer... weigh the odd's ...
like my hubby says sometimes when you are buying used , you are buying some elses headaches lol then sometimes you get lucky ...

It depends on how much it will cost to fix the one you have now. $1500 doesn't buy much these days & the new one might have problems too.

Try to sell it for whatever you can get to add to your 1500 for a downpayment on a new one.
