i bought from petsmart and it had mites and i didn't want to take it back because my son was already attached to it and it had a huge scab from scratching so we did some research and kept cleaning the cage and put cedar chips in it to keep the mites away and now our critter is just fine. it took like a week to heal though. good luck

this is a loopy tale! No, The vets do no longer hit the hamster over its head. They inject drugs that kills the hamster into his physique. it works quickly as quickly simply by fact the medicine is injected into the physique. I had to get my hamster positioned to sleep approximately 2 years in the past. i became incredibly unhappy and to make it up my dad have been given me a guinea pig.

I think if he seems fine then no. My personal opinion is though, that because hamsters are so small, the vet probably can't do much. But i would just suggest you keep a close eye on him incase something goes awry :) good luck!

my guinea-pig has the exact same thing. i took him to the vet about 1 week ago and im glad that i did. the vet said that it was an infection thing and that it wont heal by itself so he gave me some green cream to put on his sore twice daily. it worked so well and now its almost better, once it started to heel up i knocked it back to once a day so that when he dosent need it anymore it wont come as a shock. the vet also said that guinea-pigs or hamsters dont usually show they are in pain for some wired reson so you should take him to the vet asap.

Sounds like he's got a boo-boo. I wouldn't be concerned. As long as he keeps about his normal business, and doesn't seem to be in pain, I wouldn't worry about it.
I do have one question - how big is the scab? If its really large you might want to check with a vet - otherwise I wouldn't worry about it.
Peace,
-dh

you should take him to a vet, it might be something serious. Or even just something annoying, but its been so annoying for so long he's given up worrying about it. What harm can it do? It's better to be on the safe side, hamsters can't tell you when they hurt.

If your little friend isn't in pain and isn't acting weird then no.
Just keep an eye on the black scab for a few days. Your hamster
might take take of it itself.

If he seems fine he prob. is. I would not take him in because it would cost a lot. If the hamster dies which he most likey won't then it would be cheaper to get a new one. A LOT CHEAPER! Sorry Its the truth.

The scab is probably nothing serious. It will be no problom if you prevent it from being irritated.
