There are large privately owned insurance companies and pharmaceutical conglomerates that will withdraw their funding from the Republican Party if universal healthcare were afforded to every American. After all, isn't one of our rights as Americans to life? Some pharmaceutical companies try to appease the wrath of middle America by offering discount cards and free medicines to the indigent; however, this is only scratching the surface. The United States, in the future, will work toward a universal healthcare system, where everyone is equal and all treatments for diseases are rendered, regardless of income or status.

Universal health care - certainly something to explore since what we have is so out of control. How come we can't come up with a version that will work for this country better than what is going on. Well, I've got an answer. Anything that would actually help the people that it is suppose to be representing, will go undone by the US government. But maybe that is not correct since they are representing big business and their own individual interest.
It's all about insurance companies, and yes, doctors and fees (and yes, did I forget to say 'lobbyist') and nothing at all about getting health care to the masses that need it.
It's a horrific state of affairs but how to resolve it is the question. Is there no one with the backbone to get this done??

OK just as an aside, I didnt read your link, because it's in Wikipedia. Anyone can write into that so-called "reference" site, there is NO qualitry control, so I consider it a HIGHLY dubious source to quote at best.
And the reason we don't have Universal healthcare in this country is two fold:
1. Insurance Companies make an insane amount of money for these HMO things;
2. Every time a Democrat brings up Universal healthcare, Conservatives scream "SOCIALISM! SOCIALISM!"
What I find interesting is now that Republican Arnie Schwarzennegger has proposed universal Healthcare in CA, TO INCLUDE THE CHILDREN OF ILLEGAL ALIENS,

I wonder why I dont hear that "Communist" cry at all? Did the Neo Cons get all confused as to what they're supposed to be against this week?

There is no excuse for a lack of a national health plan. Why do people have to go bankrupt if their are caught off guard by a medical situation and are uninsured?
I just got a statement from Blue Cross for some blood work. One of the tests was billed at $140 and BC will pay $28 on it, and the company accepts that. The people who are really getting screwed are the uninsured who get that bill for $140 and don't have the leverage of an insurer to say "I'll pay you $28 and you'll be happy with that".

the biggest subject matters are the kick backs politicians obtain to face up to prevalent well being care. as well that it would want to in user-friendly words help the known citizen. there is not any reason we ought to continuously carry some thing as materialistic as money over a persons' well being. that's merely undeniable sickening. what's even extra sickening is each and every of the Christians who communicate about kinfolk values and how Jesus loves everybody, yet at the same time might want to somewhat see children die then recognize they received free well being care.

WHERE in the Constitution does it guarantee free health care?? Your right to life liberty & the pursuit of happiness doesn't translate to free health care!!
And why should doctors spend ten years & thousands of dollars to provide their services w minimal compensation?
If health care is a "basic right" (it isn't), what about the fundamental basics like FOOD. We should be entitled to have food provided....& what about shelter? You can't live out in the park......shouldn't the government provide that too??
Wake up!! It's been tried before....it's called socialsim/communism & it doesn't work.
Try to understand the government gets it;s money from US....you, me, your family, my friends. Who is gonna foot the bill for free healthcare for all? And who is gonna deliver those services when we offer $10 an hour as reward for years of study & commitment?
You have a right to quality health care being available, how you pay for it is your choice,

I've looked over it and couldn't agree more... and many of those other nations have very high rates of quality in independent studies done by organizations like the WHO... some even better than the U.S.
but I have a little "twist" that may just make everyone happy...
do it JUST LIKE THE SCHOOLS... allow private doctors, but also have public doctors that are state paid...
just like we have private and public schools...
that way everyone has care, but those that want better care can pay for it if they want it... and the best doctors will go work for the private firms... so the best will still get the money...
... that wasn't that hard...

If a government has a public health care system, it is usually illegal for private institutions to provide healthcare insurance by offering lower prices. That is, it is an enforced government monopoly

If universal health care is so great; why does everybody still flock to the US to pay out of their own pocket for treatment.
Bureaucracy, fraud, waste, and little incentive for research are the problems that plague most governmental universal health care systems.

It's purely political, the Republican Party knows that if the Democratic Party passes universal health care, they will look like the greatest party ever for a couple centuries to come.
So, the GOPranos work on fear, "But it will bankrupt us!"
Hey! If you can pay for this war, you can pay for universal health care.
