Slaves weren't official until the Office Of Slave Officialdom opened in 1827 in the WalMart Shopping Center in Charleston, South Carolina. On the opening day, 37 slaves were awarded Official Slave credentials at the opening ceremony, so none was really the first.

The tallest one, Bob, is generally recognized as the first Official Slave, since he was able to reach for his credentials first.

His name was Aziru and he was a member of the Nigeria Mountain Zulus. At age 15, his village headman sold him into slavery to Arab traders (notably Ali Hussein). Ali Hussein transported him to a ship of the coast of Madagascar and from there he was shipped to America. He landed on the Gulf of Mexico port Le Charlotte in 1675 and was duly registered with the government of Louisiana as the first official slave.
