When I had to get an oil change on my new 06 Jetta, a lot of oil change places said did not carry the right filter. When I finally found a place, they charged me $70 and couldn't even reset the oil change warning sign on the dash board.
If you own a 06 Jetta, have you had this problem too? Where do you get your oil change and how much do you pay?
Thanks for your help!

wow, thanks for all the comments!
just a couple more details...
1. i called the dealership and asked how much they charged for an oil change and they said $75 so i'm thinking $70 is not out of the question.
2. they charged me $70 for the filter and also because they said i needed synthetic oil which was more expensive.
3. although i would want to see justice through, i don't think it's worth it to hire a lawyer for a $40 case. Plus i don't have the time or money for it. What do you think?

Welcome to Volkswagon. Rare and overpriced oil filters are just the beginning.
You do pay a premium for that German engineering.
My shop carries all the VW filters because there are a lot of people in our area who think they have to drive German cars to be hip. Yes they are far more expensive than the conventional spin-on filters of more mundane rides like Honda's and Toyota's. Yours is probably also one of those new VW's that REQUIRES SYNTHETIC OIL in order to cure some issues VW has been having of late. Synthetic oil is of course considerably more expensive than the conventional oil that most cars can run.
I apologize if my dislike of VW's shows but as someone who has to keep these things alive for a living it just mystifies me how hard VW work to make that difficult and expensive.

$70 is not out of the question. I own 3 quick lubes and I would not carry the filter since Pennzoil does not make one for your car. But I could get one and do that for other VW owners. I have to get them from the dealer and the price is quite a bit more than what I pay for a Pennzoil filter. Also anyone that really knows your car should know that there is an oil spec that VW and Mercedes require. This oil is only going to come in a synthetic oil and it should be a 5w40 European oil. Pennzoil makes that oil and I carry a ton of it. Without adding the extra for the filter you would pay $52.95 for a synthetic oil change at my shops. Probably about an extra $6-$10 for the oil filter. So you would pay anywhere from $60-$65. So if you feel you got ripped off do a little more investigating in the type of oil you are supposed to use and you will find that you are just going to have to pay these fees to maintain your car. The spec for the oil I mentioned is 228.3. I do not use Amsoil in my shopd but this site explains a little about what I am talking about. It is for a diesel which I realize your car is not. But the oil has the same specs that Mercedes ad VW want diesel or not.

It will cost that much if you can't do it yourself. I have an audi use the same oil it is supposed to go 10,000 but I change every 5 because it runs smoother w/ clean oil. I am a huge chevy fan but couldn't afford to fuel up my truck anymore. nothing not even honda accord is as reliable as an 8 cylinder chevy truck. But synthetic lasts alot longer so don't change every 3000 miles. However you will need to learn to check the oil level more often because you will loose oil within that long of a time.

at my shop i can get these filters for about 5 dollars... usually charge about 10 dollars for the filter....and 3.50 dollars for a quart of oil depending on the flavor....chassis lube is also included at no cost as well as a tire check as well...
10.00 filter
15.00 oil
haz mat fee 2.00
tax about 2.00
total 29.00 to 30 dollars....
i would say you got screwed....even though it is a new VW....even the dealer should be able to do your oil changes quite reasonably....
hire a lawer....

Go print off the price from any internet site and bring it back to that place that ripped you off.... that is a shame that businesses take advantage of people like that, he should be shut down, if he dosent readjust the price tell him you are reporting him to the better business bureau.
Here is the filter for $12.99

first off i do it myself its cheaper, and it is not that hard, you could even find a friend who could do it for you for like $20.00, get your filter at Autozone for like $5.00, and 4 quarts of oil for like $2.50 each, so for $40.00 your oil was changed, if i were you id never go back to them again........ sounds like a case of (hey its a chick ) they always think that all chicks are stupid, so they try to get over on them..........
