What's so great about being a redneck? They seem to hate just about everybody who isn't like them.

Absolutely nothing, which should tell you how empty their life is if THAT'S what they brag about.

being a redneck does NOT mean being a 'hillbilly with an attitude'...please stick to topics you might know something about...like lattes and croissants...being a redneck means being comfortable in your own skin, being satisfied with what you have and being willing to work like hell to get it, and being real enough to enjoy yourself without worrying what other people think...rednecks are the most open and honest people on this planet, and there are far more rednecks out there than you might imagine, and they can be found all over, not just in the south...speaking of hate, you might want to check the attitude, biff...next time your beemer has a flat and you can't find the 'little wrench and the thingie that lifts the car up' and it's 2 a.m. and raining, it'll likely be a redneck that comes out from his nice warm dry bed to rescue your helpless rear end...and it was a redneck that picked your belgian endive and hauled it to the store...rednecks built your lovely little house on that quaint little cul de sac in 'woodley pointe'...pretty much everything you have was made, shipped and delivered by a redneck...and the freedom you enjoy to spew your elitist crap was earned with the blood of rednecks for over 200 years...without rednecks, this would be one sorry-a## country!

Redneck isn't really seen as a derogatory term by rednecks, unless it is used in a derogatory manner. Largely rednecks are just southern boys. They can really only be considered hillbillies if they live in hilly or mountainous areas.

What's great about being a redneck, from a redneck's perspective, is tied into Southern pride, they are country and they're proud.

Some of them hate everybody who isn't like them because they are raised in a Southern tradition where groups like the KKK have held huge sway in the past and have had a lasting effect on values their. From their perspective the more urban Northern American is nothing but a no good Liberal, trying to interfere in Southern business. They are generally staunchly Republican and set in their ways, so they see Liberals as some kind of red menace. Odd, but that's conditioning for you.

What does this have to do with being Southern? I'm originally from the South and HARDLY a redneck (you can't be one if you're Cherokee for crying out loud.)

I have nothing against "rednecks" really. After all, we get a lot of food products from those who work in the fields.

The term "redneck" originally meant "farmer", because after a day out in the hot sun, the back of his neck would be sunburnt red. "Rednecks" are for the most part, decent, kind, hardworking people.
