Gee why all the hateful responses?

There are many variations, but here's the simplest I can do!!

Offense, has the ball Quarterback-Runs the offense, calls the play about to be run, either passes, hands off to a runnibg back or may run himself if its a good option.

Usually two running backs called halfback or fullback depending on where they stand when the play starts, If not running the ball they block to protect the QB

The Center is the guy who hikes the ball to the QB, & then blocks to protect QB

On each side of the center is a Guard & Tackle (4 guys total) they block for the running back if a run play is called, or block to give the QB time to find a guy who's open to throw to.

The Center, Left Guard, Left tackle, Right Guard, Right Tackle make up the Line.

The remaining thre guys on offense will be either wide receivers, & a tight end. They all run pass routes as called by the QB. The wide receivers going farther down field.

Defense will vary depending on what they expect & hope the offense has planned.

Th edefensive line is 5 guys, (sometimes 4) who will rush the QB & try to "sack" him before he finds someone to throw to. Occasionally the defense will send more guys in to try & sack the QB, this is called a blitz.

There are three linebackers who react to tackle the running back if its a run play, or defend against the pass, usually fairly short range.

The remaining defensive guys are cornerbacks &/or safetys. Both positions defend against a pass being completed. Either man to man by covering one guy each, or in a zone where they each protect a certain area.

That's the basics!! Of course there are also a punter who kicks the ball to the other team if the offense fails to move enough, and a placekicker who attempts to kick field goals, and kicks off to the other team after a successful score/

Enjoy the game!! Budman

Go to NFL.COM. they have all the info you need.A question not asked is the only definition of a stupid question. Don't worry about the rude answers you may receive. If you can't find your answers there I'll do my best to help, but for me to type all info would take forever with one hand in a cast. Good luck.

They relate comepletely to football(soccer) as we know it. American football destructs then reconstructs these positions.Rugby(english) gives purpose and definition to this game "of ruff insentive".Athletic allong with physical demonstration conjure up neverending possibillity.
