I'm not at all thinking about having one, so don't misunderstand me there, I've just heard a little about it lately and I'm wondering why people would do it and if it's legal?

I'm sorry I forgot to add some Details:
A partial abortion is where the baby is fully formed and while bithing the baby, the doctor makes it come out feet first, and then inserts a sharp object ( dont remember name) and a cathetar into the head to suck out it's brain so "technically" the baby died before it is fully out

I thought they had outlawed them, but I could be wrong. I can not see any reason why anyone shoudl be having that done, if you cant decide earlier if you dont want that kid then thats your problem (not you, I am using the "you" term generally).

I mean if you are raped and end up pregnant are you really going to wait until you are 6-7 months along before you decide to abort......heck no.

The only people who get partial birth abortions are ones who end up doing it out of spite.

In cases of misfortune such as, deformity, baby has already expired in the womb, if it is a significant health risk to the mother, deformity where the child could not survive outside of the womb, etc. You get the picture. I believe that partial birth abortion is still legal in some states even for a perfectly normal pregnancy. If this is the case, then, usually it is out of desperation. Very sad. Also there are various ways to preform this procedure. You have only mentioned one. It is very gruesome unfortunately.

There is nothing like partial abortion.
Well as far as abortion goes any female irrespective of her age has the right to ask for abortion and its legal. It is the duty of the doctor and he is not supposed to take girl's parents, boy friends or husbands consent for the same. Well there are of course some exceptions like if the pregnancy is beyond 24 weeks or if the girl is mentally retarded.

The laws differ from state to state. In New York, you cannot have an abortion if the woman is more than 24 weeks along...

24 weeks is approximately 6 months old!!!!!
Month 6: If the baby were born in this month and given the proper care, he or she would survive.

The link above shows who voted to ban partial birth abortion and who was against it. I was NOT surprised with the no votes.
Abortion is wrong, and partial birth abortion is a disgrace. The pro-deathers are against the death penalty because it's inhumane?!?!?!?!?!?

There are very few reasons why someone could have one - and almost all of them (I cant think of an exception, but there might be one) involve a fetus that will not survive, even with the extraordinary advances in neonatal care. I'm talking about babies that are brain dead due to lack of oxygen, that sort of thing.
Gut-wrenching-heart-shattering tragedies.

partial abortions?? i dont think i know what that is. but for regular abortions, there are loads of reasons...like rape and such. or if they know the child would have a miserable life. sometimes i wish my mom had done me the favor of getting an abortion...having to live with the fact that she ****** a crazy guy, therefore i may become skitso someday really sucks...and the fact that i was an accadent makes me wanna ******* die.

It makes no sense to have an abortion at all. I am with you, in that I do not understand why one would have an abortion. If you cannot care for a child why don't you put the child up for adoption?

i think it depends on the state you go to. most states outlawed abortions if you're over about 3 months along. some states will do it if you're 6 months along.

i can't think of any state who allows partial birth abortions, (eta: unless there's a medical reason.) but i do know some politicians want to allow it. if you ask me, if it's able to survive outside the womb for even a minute, then you let it die, that's murder.

whats a partial abortion?
there are many rules limiting abortions and in many states they are not available at all because the church folk tend to shoot at the doctors and burn down the clinics.
