I believe that:

*Honesty is knowing and the desire to distinguish between what's right and what's wrong.

*Integrity is having the character AND the courage to do what's right, even though it might put you, and other people outside of their "comfort zone".

Peace.

Unfortunately I need to illustrate my definitions of both before I can explain the difference clearly. I say unfortunate because chances are the earlier, I shut up the better :) (If just for the simple reason, a shorter answer is an easier to read answer)

Honesty (to me), simply means telling the truth. A person can lie for a good cause, but most would consider them a dishonest person if for the lie alone. Yet another person can always tell the truth no matter how harmful, and most would consider him (brutally) honest.

Integrity is following your values. It is often referred or confused as doing the right thing, being a good person and doing what you said you would do, because often people's values include exactly that. So if your values are to be always do the right thing, by always following your values you are always doing what's right.

When we talk about the integrity of a building, we think about how well it stands up. We determine this by comparing it's current shape to what we intended it to be when we constructed it. I believe the same applies to real people, we all have an intended way to live life, or values. And the closer we can follow those values, the stronger we have proved our integrity.

That being said, if there was a relationship between integrity and honesty, it is when our values include honesty. And a lot of people have been bombarded with the fact that honesty is an important value to have in a good person. (For better or for worse). Thus the two are often linked.

There is also the relationship when your value lies in being a person who doesn't want other people to suffer above honesty, that having integrity means being able to protect someone despite not being honest. Thus they are often linked, but quite a different thing entirely.

Hope I didn't bore you too much,
Ken

Honesty and integrity are similar, but not exactly aligned. Honesty is a part of integrity, but not its whole. Integrity comes from the same roots as integrate and integral. It means to combine words and actions so that they reflect as one or a single force. For example a person who has integrity and says he will wash the windows on Wednesday, come Thursday, you know it has been done without checking on the work. Likewise, if a person with integrity acts in such a way, you know what his answers to the questions you might ask will be, without asking them, as his word is as good as his actions. Here is where honesty and integrity are not exact. A person who says he will wash the windows on Wednesday, but does not do it, he will admit it on Thursday when it has not been done.

Integrity is having the courage and moral fiber to do what is right even though there is no benefit, and perhaps even a detriment, to doing so. A person of integrity will be honest although not carelessly so, merely to hurt or dominate another person.

Honesty, on the other hand, is simply expressing your true feelings. A killer might honestly say that they enjoy killing but the same person has shown they lack integrity.

Integrity is having the fortitude to do what is right while honesty is merely being truthful about how you feel, regardless of whether those feelings are right or wrong.

Honesty is always speaking the truth. Integrity is taking responsibility for it.

To me, integrity means that my value system is "integrated" into the foundation of who I am. I live by my values of honesty, kindness, generosity, dependability, etc. So honesty is just one part of my value system.

Honesty is about transparent revelations, made not to willingly mislead.

Integrity is about behaving (or striving to behave) in a manner which consistently and accurately corresponds to a set of characteristics or values that one has revealed or supported.
