Ok, I recently finished high school (a month ago) and about a week after that I started feeling depressed, so I guess that's the link. I used to be very very happy. My life hasn't changed except I'm no longer in high school. But then I don't get why I'm not happy anymore. I feel trapped, my life just seems pointless, everything feels pointless. I have a roof, family, I'm usually told I'm smart, I'm pretty, I have great friends and an awesome boyfriend, but all of that just doesn't really get to me, because I feel life is pointless. And I don't feel happy. Period. Will this feeling ever pass? I'm so desperate...! Would counselling really work? I really don't see a point in it...

You're life is never pointless!! God loves you and so do the people in your life. Whenever I feel sad - I do something good for someone - help someone out, call someone who might be lonely, give to the poor.....and it always makes me feel better. Try it! and know that someone cares!!!:)

You just went through one of the biggest changes in your life - finishing high school. For 12+ years (if you went to pre-school), you have had to do nothing but go to school, now that's over. It's not uncommon to feel a lack of direction or meaning.

What you need to do is start setting some goals now and finding your "place" in the world. Get a job, travel, enroll in college, start saving for a house, etc.

The truth is life has no meaning. But if you find something you can live for, that makes it worth while, then life can appear to have some semblence of meaning. Most people would say that having and raising children, also making a career for yourself can make you feel this way. Also just because life doesn't have any meaning doesn't mean that life isn't worth living.

ah babe, i think its just because life as you've been used to has changed. you had a fixed structure/friends/enviroment and now it that part of your life has finished. its probably a fear of the unknown,"whats next" standing on your own two feet more! you'll grow into that skin..dont worry, its great you enjoyed your school life! which means you got social and people skills to get on in life and with new people...Enjoy! the world and your life is ahead of you!

finding a cause you believe in and donating time to it can give more meaning to your life than sitting and blabbing to a counselor (and I am a counselor so I'm not against counseling)...

it can be anything from reading books to children in a hospital, to performing music at a retirement home, to coing a park cleaning effort - there are many possibilities for you to feel good by bringing meaning to your own life...
good luck.

Life will change, and it will change quickly. Just get busy and get involved in something.

You've lost what you have been doing for a long time. Now you need to get on with the next chapter of your life.

Get out there and get writing it.
