And when the a/c is on the heat comes out. It's not a matter of warming up or cooling off, because it doesn't happen all the time...it's very tempermental and is pissing me off. BTW 2003 Dodge Durango. The dealer (suck) told me that they would have to pull the entire dash out just to see if they could find the problem. Any ideas? **I know the dealer will bleed me dry**

Get a quote from the dealership and then get some from some local mechanics- shop around for a mechanic to get the best deal. If there is a college with an automotive program nearby give them a call- most of the time they will do the work for free and only make you buy the parts.

I had the same problem and I have a 2003 Durango.
In my case the previous owner went into the heater box and destroyed everything trying to get to the heater core..... in your case it sounds like one of the doors isnt working, you have 3 doors in the big heater box which is under the dash and mounted to the firewall. In my case I had to have put in a new box, heater core, ac evaporator, 1 actuator and blower motor.... parts and labor cost me $1031..... in your case I would estimate areound 400-700 $
What is happening is one or more of the vacuum actuators isnt working, there are 3 to control the 3 doors. And yes the whole dash had to come out, there was nothing left when they ripped mine apart but the steering column..... better they did the job than me....

I accept as true with that guy, theres some thing incorrect consisting of your description. in case you turn your thermostat to the off position and the fan to the motor vehicle position, does the air nonetheless blow out of the vents even after a 2 minute postpone? if so, then it will be a foul thermostat, or a foul administration board.

Local colleges with auto repair courses will often work on vehicles at a much discounted rate. The work is good, but you might have to wait a little longer to get the vehicle back. Is saving $500 to $700 worth the wait?

they may have to do just that......on intermittent problems such as yours....the problem is usually behind the dash.....the duct work is control ed by opening & closing small doors depending upon your demand for heat or cool air...........stay away from the dealer thou............seek out the help of a qualified automotive tech.

If the thing is still under warranty, check and see if the work your dealer is recommending is covered. If it is not, or the beast is no longer under warranty, ditch it.

maybe take it apart yourself
it is doubtful the dealer knows anything more about it than you do
and they will charge you $100 per hour to learn
