I think they focus a bit too much on the bad singers, honestly. At least for the search portion of the show. It's entertainment. The producers get to hear/see all these people before Simon/Paula/Randy and they decide if they're exceptional singers enough to make it, OR they are weird enough to get ratings up. The REAL show starts when they get to Hollywood. :)

In no way do I think American idol has gone too far. Keep in mind there where thousands of thousands of auditions that day and do you think they would show all of the auditions? The producers only show the really bad ones with the judges being brutally honest with them saying you cannot sing at all. If they can't handle the critiques from the judges then they definitely couldn't handle if they ever went big in the music business. The judges are giving them a taste in what it would be like and it comes to show you that they cannot handle it and plus it goe sto show they know they cannot sing well and I have no idea in why they say to themselves they can sing like better than big music stars.

well, they do go into it knowing what they are in for..but they honestly think they can sing really good and last time i checked, self esteem wasn't illegal, if you know what i'm saying. they look like the three snots in high school trying to be impressed by the dorks and nerds, and either letting them enter into the "click" or bashing them like the nerds that they are! I hate to admit it but I love watching the show and I don't laugh as much as I do watching america's funniest vodeos, but I look forward to hearing people who can not sing! It is rather amusing, sad to say. I think the comments have gone too far, they're going beyone their bounds when they critique peoples looks or antyhing else that has nothing to do with their singing. But don't they go into it knowing what to expect? I would love to go to American Idol, I suck like ***, but it's the experience of hearing Simon tell me "you're brutally awful".....there's a quote for the scrapbook!

I don't think American Idol has gone too far because those people should already be aware that the judges do critique about their singing if they aren't good. They should know to stay home, but again, i love them! They make me laugh! It's great! =)

How can someone who is AWFUL (even if they think they have talent) at signing, go into the audition and expect to be praised??!! I think they deserve the harsh reality the judges are handing out. Some of these people are just full of themselves. Plus it makes for some good television!

I normally don't watch the show, but once I did and I saw Simon calling a man that had large eyes, a monkey. I was angry and insulted for him. It is not funny to be rude to people, especially when someone is doing it to you on national television. Simon probably should have several bodyguards at all times. He must get death threats too. He should be replaced by someone who can be honest but not hurtful, insulting and rude.

the only reason that Simon is so hard on people is for publicity. its what the public wants and what hes paid for. i think American idol is getting overrated i mean on the trout shows the entire show is people who cant sing and then there is 1 or 2 who are actually good. i think its sad.

i really love that show, and even though it's amusing, i think many people are trying to show off. like that amish guy. but still, many people who really can't sing should step away, so that's one thing we can't blame simon for. but simon shoud really use common sense as to critisizing someone's looks. that went too far, and i fear for the judges' lives

I think the awful people are trying out more, so the judges are being meaner to counteract that.
Honestly...some folks who audition KNOW they have no chance, so why waste the judges time & OUR time??
