Sandhill crane may be right, though with the birds
in the shade as they are it is hard to be certain.
They could be one of a couple of other cranes,
depending on where the picture was taken. They
look almost as though they may be white all over, which would probably make them whooping cranes,
the sandhills are brown or gray.

These are Sand Hill Cranes. We live in Florida and they often wander around our neighborhood and walk down the street as though they own the place. They are not at all shy and will walk right up to you. It is amazing when they take flight because of their large wing span. We often say that we feel like we live in Jurasic Park when they fly overhead.

Looks like a brolga, an Australian crane. Do you know whether the picture is Australian? They look similar to sandhill cranes, but are bigger. If not, then it's a sandhill crane.

Those are Sandhill Cranes (Grus canadensis).

They are incredible birds... huge, graceful and with a very spectacular mating display and a rattling cry.. They are so amazing to watch! Where I live they are afraid of humans and stick to the wilderness areas, by the lakes, creeks and fields. You can watch them in nearly every meadow in the wild rural areas.
