We as a country and people can not allow the trade deficit to continue to escalate.. what are your ideas about how to have items made in our own back yard... scary thought . if we were to ever to to war with China ( I believe we are right now economically) would we be able to make anything to fight that war?

That is a very good question. In the small town I live in....most of the factories closed and moved to Mexico. They can get labor so much cheaper there. Then we have Mexicans coming here to work because they can make here in one day what they would work a week there for. I was told this by one of them.

For some reason our leaders would rather pay import taxes on items than to try to competively keep factories here. That is the same way with oil...we buy more oil from foreign countries than from our own. Why? The most of the oil produced here is sold overseas. That is the craziest thing. We produce enough oil in this country that we shouldn't have to buy it from anywhere else.

We would rather buy things from other countries to support them than to have factories and plants here and give the jobs to Americans. I don't understand it either. I will keep an eye on this and see if anyone gives you an answer to answer both our questions.
Thanks for asking this.

No, if China saw attempts that we were trying to become independent then they would probably switch to the Euro. Both the U.S. and China's economies are so entwined that the U.S. economy would crash if China switched to the Euro. The reason China has not did this is because China's economy would most likely crash too. A domino effect would happen, which would crash the world economy.

This is the U.S.'s weakness but it is also how the U.S. draws it's power. The U.S. is completely dependent on other countries and it also exploits them since they are also dependent on the U.S..

This wasn't a mistake. There is a reason why this was set up this way.

Edit: It is like the U.S. constantly withers and drains the life force of other countries to sustain itself to counter it's own withering.

Because they want inexpensive items. That has cost us jobs, production capability. We are already losing the economic war with China. The Soviet Union boasted during the cold war that they would sell the rope that hung the Capitalists. The truth now is that the Chinese will be the ones in position to sell that rope.

I don't care because it doesn't really matter. We live in a world economy now. Things are assembled and produced all over the world. Design happens in one country, building happens in another, and it's sold elsewhere. That's good for the world. Protectionism breeds recession or worse. The days of made in the USA are over, in part because the rest of the world is slowly developing but also because American workers demand too much in salary and benefits. Auto workers want huge money for doing manual labor and we all have to pay the price for that.

Okay, here's the thing.

I hear people prattle about how it's my American duty to buy an American car. Then I wander over to my local car lot and the foreign jobs are cheaper and have better guarantees.

You know what? I did my American duty for 20 years in the military. Y'all didn't pay me enough to afford the extra few grand just to make a point.

You want me to buy American? Price it competitively.

americans make crappy items for too much money. If you want to buy an DVD player for example, you can go to WalMart and get one for $80. If the americans made the EXACT same DVD player. it would cost several hundred, no one would buy it, those that did would be pissed cause it didn't work right and the company would go out of business.

Money is precious and the union heavy labor causes prices of American goods to tower over the prices of goods produced abroad in countries with open labor policies.

Complex question. We must have a better educated workforce to create the products. We must have fair trade policies. And we must have a different mindset here - we are a greedy bunch who constantly want stuff and are opposed to sacrifice.

probably because most people dont bother to read the label, besides, is there anything left that is truly made in America. It might be assembled in America, but the components are all foreign.
