What happens when you are called for jury service. Do your employers have to give you time off work?

In NY State, if the employer has more than 25 employees, they must pay you as well

Most jobs address jury duty in their employee handbook which you should have received when you were hired. Typically, employers do not pay for your time off. You can try claiming financial hardship as a way of getting out of it, but that rarely works as you need to be the sole supporter of a family. If you can, try to just suck it up and do the jury duty as requested. All too often nowadays people will do anything possible to get out of it and what should be a "jury of our peers" winds up being comprised of retirees and other folks that aren't even close to eing peers of the defendent.

I had just purchased my house when I was called for duty. Now get this. When you make $36.00 an hour and my jury duty ws going to be for three days . My loss would've been 1, 296.00

All the County wanted to pay me was $25.00 a day for Jury Duty and I threw one big fit.

So my Manager told me that he would put me on sick leave so that I would not lose so much money.

I was a lead Tech for Telecommunications.
We were wiring up Fiber Optics.
If your lucky your employer might help you out, but doen;t hold your breath.

Yes due to the fact it is your civic duty to serve on a jury, you must be given time to go if you are called to do so.

By federal labor law, they do have to give you the time off. But the companies are free to make their own policy regarding whether you get paid for the time or not. Check with your supervisor.
