Not really, They should definitely get rid of BB though, it serves no use in society other than the ‘entertainment’ of watching unintelligent people sat gawping around for hours on end. Admittedly I used to like it (during the first and second series when everyone who went in was a bit naïve as to what would happen on the outside). But now…grr. But I bet all that will happen to 4 is a big fat fine…which I’m sure they’ll find the money to pay for anyway.

No. The public service remit for Channel 4 is the provision of a broad range of high quality and diverse programming which, in particular -
(a) demonstrates innovation, experiment and creativity in the form and content of programmes;
(b) appeals to the tastes and interests of a culturally diverse society;
(c) makes a significant contribution to meeting the need for the licensed public service channels to include programmes of an educational nature and other programmes of educative value; and
(d) exhibits a distinctive character.
Putting someone like Jade Goody on TV is certainly distinctive, the programme educates us to the underlying racism in much of British society, and Big Brother was certainly innovative when it started. Ignorant racist bullying doesn't exactly "appeal to the tastes and interests of a culturally diverse society", but then they didn't commission the content, it was foist upon them by Jade and Danielle Lloyd.
You can't argue that Celebrity Big Brother is "high quality", and Channel 4 should certainly look at whether it really should continue with a programme centred around egotists, humiliation and invasion of privacy.
Channel 4 has done so many brave or otherwise excellent pieces of programming (such as Brass Eye, Queer as Folk, the interview with Alastair Campbell about the Iraq Dossier, Channel 4 News in general, Dispatches, Unreported World, Father Ted, Green Wing, The Mark Thomas Product, Peep Show, Sugar Rush, Jamie's School Dinners, Derren Brown's live Russian Roulette, the live autopsy, screening The Idiots - the first time real sex had been shown on terrestrial TV in the UK) that to stop them broadcasting because of juvenile abuse by some reality TV non-celebrities would be an astounding step.

Good question!
This is a bit of a shocker - I mean for an 80s chick like me, Channel 4 is my hero!!!
But the cynical side of me says, there has got to be some selective editing going on. We know they have done this in past Big Brother programmes.
Is this responsible journalism? I think not.
My view is that it is never right to be a racist. But Jade, who is probably no more racist than the average person of her age and education, has been scapegoated.
She has exposed the secret racism in many of us and she's being punished.
Well....she made several millliiion out of the media so maybe it is her time.
We can all learn from thjis. The question is, do we want "good" TV, or do we want responsible TV?

Nah, I've seen more offensive things on the BBC and ITV than what has happened in the last week of BB.
I'm getting quite annoyed with these people who are complainig about this behaviour! Discrimination happens in the real world 10 times worse than this ( i know cause cause I'm disabled) and instead of trying to hide it why don't they use it as a learning curve to educate people. Most of their behaviour in BB is ignorance.
there was complaints last year with Pete and his Tourettes. I knew nothing about Tourettes until I watched him.
Stop sweeping it under the carpet and educate people.

Channel 4 has always been a dubious use of tax-payers money ( and I see the TV licence as a tax ). It should loose its licence because it does not serve a public purpose that commercial television could not accommodate. With the licence will go the massive subsidy.

Why should they. Jade was the one that opened her big mouth. Danielle and Jo followed voluntarily. Don't blame channel 4. Jade, Danielle and Jo should lose EVERYTHING if anyone is going to lose out. They've bought it all on themselves.
