It helps get out some of the pent up anger, & agression.
It's not healthy to keep your emotions all locked up inside.

I've never burned a dress, but I have destroyed some pictures in the past and haven't regretted it. What ever makes someone feel better about the end of the relationship (other than violence) should be up to the person. If it would make you feel better, then burn baby burn.

WOW, you burned the dress??????? I am in complete shock but its not like it isn't heard of. I, myself didn't have the luxury of having a wedding dress, more like an old frock of the family that I was more than happy to wear, but no i didn't set it ablaze after we divorced. In fact, I still have it but it doesn't get worn, ever! So, you burned the dress. Oh well, its not the dress or clothing that people will remember, it is the happiness in the air during a wedding and reception. So no worries about the dress.

Yes, I in fact burned my first wedding dress.... not because I was pissed though.
I was sorting and tossing before I moved in with my current husband and I had a huge bonfire going. I burned a lot of things. I cannot say it made me feel better since it was not out of anger that I burned it.
It is a symbol of a bad time in ones life. I suppose some people may get closure from burning something that represents that time in their lives.

I didn't have a "wedding" dress to burn. I got married in a dress I already had ad a couple of years later gave it to charity. Not everyone get's married in white wedding gown you know, and not all of us women break things when the marriage ends...some MEN do though...my ex husband destroyed all of our old photo albums. So does it make YOU feel better to destroy things after a divorce? (see how stupid generalizing makes you and your question look?)

Burn it if it makes you feel better, but be sure that you don't have any feelings of doubt before you do it because it's a decision that you can't take back later. I love to release frustration by destroying things and finding a controlled way to do that is very constructive. If you decide to do it, have fun. If you decide not to, put it away in a closet until you're ready to let go of it forever.

I'm sure someone has.. i haven't , since i have never been married,
Maybe they regret the marriage so much they wanna destroy something from it,like the dress.. throw away the ring.. or maybe they just think its a ugly dress and cant understand why they chose it.. so they feel embarrassed, and wanna destroy all evidence of having a bad taste.. Many reasons my friend.

That is sick. It's not the dress' fault that the relationship went down the tube. Destroying an inanimate object is a sign of a very immature character . No wonder .
Anger management is in order here.
Donate the dress to a church group for resale .

I still have my wedding dress from this marriage but from my first marriage I did not have a wedding dress--I threw away the dress I wore though. I gave away everything he gave me and yes that did make me feel better!

I have never done that, but I recently heard the best story.
A woman found pictures in her husband’s desk of a woman he works with, and she was not baking cookies. Anyhow, this woman removed the negatives and had prints blown up to poster size and had them pasted onto all the bustops he would pass on his way home from work.
And the best part is, she used his credit card to pay for it all.
LOL, genius!
