are you sure that your modem isn't conected to you router that is how it normal is if so. check the cable running from your computer to your router it might be bad if not try reseting your modem by sticking a pen in the back and holding it down for 3 min. when it is reset check your desktops conection if it still doesn't work call your router tech support.

you mean your desktop is connected to the router, i highly doubt its connected to the modem, unless in has more than onejack.

You need to check the status of your local area connection. you can find it in the control panel in network and internet connections. and network connections. then it will bring up a small window with 2 tabs, go to the other tab, it will give you whats called an ip. it should start with 192.168.another number. another number. if its not that thats the main problem, you may need to reset your router and restart your computer in that order. If thats not it it has to do with your router and i can't help you much with that beauce all routers are differnet.

First, put your desktop through your router so you can use everything together.

Second, turn off your desktop and pull the power out of you cable modem for 2 minutes then power everything up.

If tyhat doesnot work, chceck your ethernet drivers.

unplug the wires from the router 1 by 1 and let them rest for like 30 seconds. its probably not ur router at all. xbox live closes down for a while to work on things.

Make sure you enabled your ethernet port on your desktop. Go to Start > Control Panal > (classical View if not already) > Network Connections.

Then if any of the following say disable re-able them my right clicking on them and clicking Enable. If they are enabled try clicking repair. And finally if neither of those work restart your computer.

Good luck.

Do you have the right cat5 cable? Is the cable good? Did you run your internet connection wizard and select connect thru lan?
