It's hard to start babysitting. It's not that your too young, it's just that most parents don't go out a lot by themselves much. Tell your parents that you want to start babysitting. Trust me, this comes up a lot in conversations and your parents will mention to their friends that you are willing to babysit. Handing out flyers and hanging signs doesn't really work so well. I mean, how often do you read flyers, and isn't it easier to just tell someone then hand out a flyer. Most people will just throw it away once they get it. I would also recomend taking a babysitting class. A lot of librarys hold them. It's only one class, but it's really long. Parents will feel safer if you have taken it though. It teaches you pretty much how to babysit, and what to do in an emergency. Good Luck!

Ask your parents if they have friends who need a sitter. Make certain that your folks are on standby, in case of emergencies. As well as having contact numbers of parents you're sitting for and emergency services.
I started babysitting when I was 12, but the law changed it to 16. Something else to think about.
BTW: The people always left great food to stuff yourself with. Enjoy!

First of all, i think that 12 is a bit to young. I would wait till you are about 13 or 14. I am 14 and i babysitt. To let people know that you are babysitting, make flyers with your name, and about your experiences, and your ratings**. I gave my flyers to people i know only! Its your choice (or parents), if you want to give them to people you dont no also. Eventually you will get asked to babysitt. This worked for me. Have fun babysitting!

Start by letting friends and neighbors know that you want to babysit. Offer references from others regarding how responsible and dependable you are. Once you get a job or two, more will come

Start by taking a babysitting course at the Red Cross. That shows people that you are responsible. Then try advertising by word-of-mouth, through your parents and neighbors.

Start with a neighbor or close family friend. Get them to write a reference letter.

Or better yet, join a babysitter's union in your community. Look for them in the Sunday paper.

This is a crazy world to babysit for strangers.
