In a sense, the argument is a fair one. Marijuana usage (in the US) is very high, over 24%, so I'd have to say that it could be beneficial to legalize it for the purpose of tax revenue.

The other side of it is that determining who is driving - or doing something else that is already dangerous enough without being under the influence of marijuana is somewhat difficult, and it should be illegal to do so.

Having said that, I do find that it is harder and harder to justify the expense of imprisoning those who are found guilty of possession of small amounts of this particular drug. Distributing massive amounts of it enables those who peddle other drugs to find ways around the system - if they can make the marijuana undetectable, then it is that much easier to conceal other drugs that are much more dangerous.

It should be legalized and taxed. There could be age restrictions and laws for intoxication, just like alcohol. I really don't understand what's taking so long...so many Americans use marijuana anyway, negative health effects are nothing compared to that of tobacco, and the money from taxes could bring in a lot of money we need for things we are ignoring- the environment and education to name two. Let's not forget the health benefits and people who don't live in California and/or can't shell out $300 just to get a prescription. It's so logical to legalize it.

i've never used marijuana but from what i have learned from experts it is the equivalent of alcohol. its a different type of high of course but it is not any more dangerous than alcohol and in some cases it can be less dangerous. the thing is people are going to do it no matter what. if we made it legal we could tax it and this country could have a whole lot more money. plus we would end the costs of convicting criminals who do this.

Legalise it and bring it under government control. That way you can reduce the strength back to how it was, and still make as profit in taxes. If that money was then put into fighting the big drug pushers, then it would be worth it.

We don't need to legalize anything. Just stop prosecuting so hard!
