www.babycenter.com is a good web community. But don't go buying things just because some website says you need it, if you don't think you'll use it or if its not within your budget. I bought all the blankets, t-shirts and such the websites said I would need and did not use most of them. The things I used most were the baby swing, crib of course, highchair, jumperoo, stroller, car seat and playpen with full bassinet but I didn't buy the jumperoo when I was pregnant.

they going to tell you you need it all but all you really need to start is a crib , playpen with a detachable bassinet/changing and than when babys bigger you can remove thetop paet and you have a full size playpen for later,, you must get a boppy pillow maybe even two they are the best, good car seat and stroller all the other stuff can wait like the high chair and swing you shouldn't use a swing till there a few months old anyway so relax take a deep breath go to americanbaby.com they hav all types of info on products ratings and even recalls of faulty or un safe products

Get a subscription to www.consumerreports.org too so you can check out ratings on car seats and how to buy a crib etc.
Also whatever you do, do NOT buy a Johnny Jumper or an Excersaucer or baby walkers. New research is showing that they cause cognitve and motor skill delays.

I just had a son three months ago. I had a crib, a carseat, one piece jammies, onesies, and socks, more then enough recieving blankets, thicker blankets. Most of the time he sleeps in his crib now. When I first got him home, he would not sleep in there, so i slept him in the carseat all bundled up. There really is not a list of things you should have. but if i had to make one... I would say...
*Plenty of blankets, differnt thickness and sizes
*Bottles
*newborn and stage one diapers
*wipes (do not worry about buying newborn wipes, they are thin and the mess gets on your hands. regular ones are fine, they are all the same)
*carseat
*those lil hats (tho i did not use them)
*socks
*Onezies
*gas drops of some kind.
I really cant think of what else I had. but i know i did not have alot. and he is perfectly fine now.

Ask your friends that have kids. They can tell you what to get and what not to get. They might let you see some of the products too and tell you how much they cost!

Babies 'R Us has a checklist of stuff that is pretty good. I used it, common sense, and a friend who had a baby before me to gather my supplies.
BabyCenter.com and Americanbaby.com are pretty good.
