I work in a Tractor salvage yard as a parts rep. Most of the people are upset before they come to me because some sort of their machinery broke. They will end up spending money to fix it, and nobody wants to do that. I've been to a customer service seminar, to tell you the truth, the gentleman speaking didn't really answer my question. Anyone have simmilar problems?

I assume your dealing alot with farmers. They are a breed all of their own, and they don't like to spend money on things they think they shouldn't have to. many of them are usually upset at the high cost of replacement parts and it has an impact on how they treat you. that is why they are coming to you for cheap parts and they always feel they should be cheaper than whatever you charge for them. I try to deal with them in a light hearted way they best I can and not let them get under my skin. But, there will always be that "one" and he is the one that I wait on and get out of the store as quickly as I can. And it is always better if you make them feel like they are getting a good deal whether they are or not. Most of all try not to take anything personal.

Empathize with the customer, and do the best you can do to take care of his need. There's only so much you can do and you can't keep everybody happy all the time. If they are unreasonable, try to work out something that they would view as equitable. What is obvious to you may not be to the customer; and you should do what you can to placate them or let some one else deal with it if you have run out of options. Keep them aware that you are working to solve the problem and not create them. Sometimes you just can't keep everyone smiling, but you can live with it knowing that that's the best that can be done. Now go home and be nice to the dog and the spouse.

When working with farmers or truckers I have learned the best thing I could do is listen. There are some little lovelies this doesn't work with and I wasn't allowed to put duct tape over their mouths or beat them sensless as I would loved to have done-free of charge even. So, I got to know the wives. If someone is a complete a**. I would call their wife and ask how things were going and they would handle it for me. You don't have to scream or yell when dealing with difficult people, contact their boss and let them smooth things out.

I could inform him to deliver again the rest donut, and allow him pick a alternative.(One of the ones stuffed donuts with out the gap, however, he'd ought to pay the change in rate if there's any.Perhaps there could be bureaucracy to fill out ! Give their B.S. correct again to them.) There's no manner I'd have post with an fool for 126 calls. If he persisted to be a nuisance, then I could name the police.

There are organisations that offer specific training in dealing with difficult customers. The address below is one example.

Could you advise me what type of oil I should use in the final drive of a 35 year old Fordson Major tractor?

I used to be a service adviser/service writer in a Cadillac dealership. You need to learn how not to take there negativity personally. It used to really get to me that they would vent on me because " there cad " cost 60K ,2 days ago and now its broke..ugh!looking back I can appreciate the buyers position, but theres nothing wrong with having a sens of humor..I know its tough dealing with farmers,I grew up on a dairy farm

If the customer comes to you with a problem you have to try and fix their problem to their satisfaction or direct them to someone who can, its that simple. Now for some reason the problems cannot be fixed period, tell them and direct them to re =buy a nw= one. And if you can't handle the heat in the kitchen, well your better to get out of the kitchen, follow.

I work at Wendy's and have people bitching at me all the time! One of dave's philosophies was "just be nice" and I won an award for being nice. When they come and are mean to you, make their day and be really friendly. they know its not your fault. If you can be friendly to them and really nice, the should loosen up a little and be nice back to you. you are only the salesman.

Firstly always tell them the truth, don't make promises, as there is always someone else that can break them for you.
Aplogoise, remain calm, empathise not sympathise with them.
when there is something negative you want to tell them, tell them in a positive way...for instance, sorry we cannot do that for you, however this is what we can do for you.

hope this helps......

Tried some active listenning. Show simpathy for your customer, sound sincere, repeat in your words what he's feeling and looking for. Put yourself in his place.
Also, if things get difficult, you can apply the broken record technique (e.g. Repeat over and over...."I apologize sir, but this is all we can do at the moment")
