Wind farms exists today and will likely continue to contribute to the energy needs to fuel this country for many generations into the future.

A drawback to wind farms is that building a new wind farms will require a large area of land to build on. This land must also exists in a generally windy area in order to be profitable to those who will invest in this type of energy source.

Also note:
-Large windmills can cause problem with nearby communication receptions.
-A large portion of the potential wind farm energy is lost due to friction.
-Noise from a large windfarm can be a problem to a nearby community.

Any answer will be at best a guess.

Probably the determining factor will be the relative cost of generation. Wind turbines have to compete with fossil fuel, hydro, photovoltaic and nuclear power.

My guess that the folks who worry about bird kill by turbines, those who don't want rivers dammed and those who worry about the safety of nuclear generation will have a moderating effect on the outcome.

In my view photovoltaic generation is the greenest method of generation.
