ok, for those who don't get my logic...

in batman begins, it explains that bruce wayne chose the "bat" because it was something he had a fear of since childhood. ergo, if he was afraid of spiders, would he then become known as "spiderman"?

It’s not necessarily true that Bruce became Batman to overcome his fear of bats. And it’s not necessarily true that he had a phobia of bats. He simply reasoned that what frightened him as a boy would frighten others. He didn’t have an irrational fear of bats.

The Batman mythos has grown over the years, but from the very beginning-- when the bat flew into Bruce Wayne’s window as he wondered what sort of disguise he should choose to fight crime-- he was startled. Very few adults are subject to an irrational fear of bats. He did not expect that he would be able to terrify criminals into surrendering at the sight of him. (Not until after he built his fearsome reputation.) But he capitalized on legends of vampires, etc., to make The Batman seem almost supernatural.

Later additions to the mythos had Bruce as a boy falling into a bat-filled cavern beneath an old barn on the Wayne estate, which later became the Batcave, or having nightmares about a large bat that swooped down as if to attack him, as a boy. These childhood fears did not necessarily extend into his adult life.

Yes and No. Originally the Bat was the symbol he chose because it would scare Others. Newer incarnations have said he chose the thing he feared. According to that version then he might have chosen a spider. One thing is for sure, if he was an arachnophobe Spidey would get the crap kicked out of him on the occasions they have met each other
