Naruto is not "the best show ever" - though it has been branded to be as such by many peole - but it is certainly popular.
There are a lot of shows that are more entertaining to watch than Naruto, but that depends on what kind of things you like to watch.

Naruto is a pretty good show except that it has too many filler episodes.It was kinda long too.Naruto gets 2 out of 5 stars and only because you think it was great.
You should try 'Bleach' which is about the battle between gods of death and hollows(some kind of evil spirit/creature). This series is still ongoing.Had some fillers, but hey, at least they were interesting.Perhaps 3.5 out of 5 stars.
Or... Chobits. Somewhere in the future where robots look like humans and have amazing software inside them that causes them to behave like humans.But, they lack emotions and feelings.This college student finds a female robot(chobits) in the trash and takes it home.He starts teaching her about everything,from talking to wearing undergarments.It's like teaching a kid about the world.Chobits is an extraordinary robot,aside from having the best hardware and irresistible looks, she has feelings.She's like the 'Queen' of the robots.Remember that college punk?Well..., the thing is, he fell in love with chobits and it so happens that the robot loves him too.Pretty short series , about 20+ episodes.I'll give it 4 out of 5 stars.

Naruto is one of the best. It has a good story. It’s one of the best because it’s popular. Though there are other shows out there that can be considered really the best. I personally recommend:
•InuYasha(really interesting story)
•Air tv(sad, nice story, a girl that’s a reincarnation of a girl with unhuman powers that lived in feudal japan, the girl was a winged being, thus having or being very powerful, all info is really spoiler. )
•Tokyo Mew Mew(5 girls saving the world from aliens)
•Eureka 7(mecha, sad ending)
•Full Metal Alcamist(cool show)
•Ouran High School Host club(funny,girl that drees)
•Tusubasa Chronicle(story line with xxxholic interwine)(about timetravel)
•xxxHolic(same with tsubasa)(about a boy whi can see spirts)
•Mermaid Melody(about mermaid yes, nice story)
•Full Moon Wo sagashite(about a girl trying trying the change her fate, she will die in a year, she is trying to change that fate)
•Princess Tutu(a duck that turns into girl, also about story telling)
•Pita ten(girl that’s apprenatnce angrl, trying to become an angel, who falls in love with a biy, who befriends a gril that’s the oppiste of her(yeah oppiste of angel)
•Chobits(a robot type of girl that falls in love with a human) kinda of perverted show, see the show you see why.
•Ufo princess Valykrie(funny, a powerful alien girl (age 18) turn’s eight when she gives half of her soul to a human boy(age 17) when she almost kills him. The girl Valkyrie, is in love with that boy. The boy is in love with Valkyire, 17+8 you do the math, kind perverted. See the show and you see why, bout really good story)

HELLZ YES! Naruto IS the best show EVER!!! Im like obsessed with it, Im even watching it right now!!! Uhmmm...you should try watching Bleach, FullMetal Alchemist or InuYasha ^^

In my opinion, the anime sucks. The manga is way better, although it is kinda lagging.
Some good animes:
samurai champloo, paradise kiss, honey and clover, FLCL, trigun, inuyasha, cowboy bebop, evagelion, rurouni kenshin, dragonball and sailormoon. All ghibli studio films.
