- A pair of straight leg (not skinny, there is a huge difference) flat front pants, a nice fabric, with a mid-rise and a perfect fit for your body. Colors like black, brown, charcoal, khaki, tan, and a few pinstripe selections (simple though)
- Atleast one pair of absolutely fabulous dark denim jeans. Not with a trendy wash or any designs on it. Just simple and classic. Try a straight leg like the pants (it will give you two amazingly straight and never-ending legs), or a boot-cut, depending on your height.
- A little black dress. Go for a simplistic, unflashy, and sophisticated dress. A nice flowy fabric and fit in a cut that suits your body.
- A suit, whether you are a professional or not, it can be a classic style staple. For the pants go for the type I listed above, and get a blazer that shows off that fabulous figure.
- Jackets! A winter coat, a pea coat, blazers, cardigans, trenches, all of it.
- Easy layering pieces, oxford shirts, blouses, t-shirts, tanks, sweaters, they'll help you create a put-together look.
- An amazing bra and panties set!
- The easy to-do pointed toe 2.5 inch heel. Simple and classy.
- A carry all bag. Not too big or small. Something you can use for everyday.
- A clutch purse, great for those special occasions.
- A stylish sneaker in a cute color, that looks less sporty and more casual.
--- You must remember though, make sure everything fits perfectly (or almost so), otherwise it will never be timeless.
--- Go for bright colors. Mix those neutrals with a splash of color for personality.
--- Accessories. Don't go overboard and keep it classy but fun. Nice studs, pearls, small hoop earrings, small chandelier earrings, and fine pieces that will last a lifetime.
--- A smile. Cheesy, I know. But seriously, it's a peaceful and optimistic attitude that is truly timeless.
Good luck!

Let's see:
Definitely need a mock-neck or turtleneck crochet or cable-knit sweater, in black, purple, green, blue, or teal.
A couple short-sleeve blouses that can be dressed up (for work, with slacks or a skirt), or down (jeans and sneakers).
A couple long-sleeved shirts (I especially like henleys and v-neck) that can also be dressed up or down, in neutral colors like black and white.
A pair of straight-leg or boot-cut khakis with a little bit of stretch (can be worn even when you're not feeling your skinniest, and if you're like me, you have a couple days out of the month you feel like that!).
A pair of black straight-leg or boot-cut slacks, flat-front.
A couple of classic button-front blouses. They can be worn with ANYTHING.
And an A-line skirt or two that hits just below the knee, in either khaki or black.
You can wear any of those with ANYTHING. I've had stuff like that in my closet for years, and everyone says I'm always well-dressed, lol.
As for shoes, you only need three pairs of "staple" shoes: A modest closed heel and toe pair of heels (a two to three inch heel is MORE than enough) in either black or brown (or both!), a pair of oxfords (look good with ANYTHING!), and a pair of boots that reach halfway up the calf in either black or brown (or both!).
Hope some of this helps!

staple items you should be spending a lot on, so they will last. invest in a good pair of bootcut jeans (true religion, citizens of humanity, seven), a blazer (solid color), oxford shirts that fit you well, black dress pants, a good dress coat, plain v neck cashmere. things that will never go out of style.
