The California Institute of Technology and The University of California help NASA and some other Federal agencies run the Keck Observatory near the summit of Mauna Kea on the big island of Hawai'i. It's a group of ten of the largest and most powerful telescopes on Earth, where many discoveries are made. Researchers from many other Universities "rent" time there to work on their projects.

This would be a great inclusion for your report. If you ever get an opportunity to visit, you will be amazed beyond belief!

Good luck!

The University of Arizona in Tucson has a great dept in this area, and they run the observatories at Kitt Peak which is another great set of huge telescopes - and much easier to get to than Mauna Kea - you can drive over from campus any afternoon!
