To keep a track of all children on the special needs register. Ensure that all teacher keep their IEP's up to date, arrange for specialist assessment and testing of children as identified by teachers and or parents.
Make sure that all parents of children identified as children with special needs are aware of what this means in terms of their child's learning.
Monitor meetings and attend any meeting as arranged for the children who are statemented.
Oh and they usually have a full-time teaching obligation.

SENCOs are special needs co-ordinators within the education setting. They are in charge of children's special needs within school co-ordinating the child's Education needs and how to access them with the help of professionals coming into school e.g. O.Ts Physios Speech and language therapists, educational psychologists and so on. They will arrange appointment times for the child within school and meet the requirements of the child's Educational statement.
