If you're British, do you believe that it was justified?

I often hear that history is written by the winners of wars.

Do you think that history has been exaggerated or do think that most of the facts were correct and it was a just war?

I'm just curious.

To be more specific, I'm talking about the war between the British Colonies in America and their government.

I realize that not everyone may call that war "The American Revolution", as America is a broad term and can be used to refer to South America, North America, the United States, or both continents.

The American Revolution Started with the United Statesian war of independence and ended in 1825 with the Peruvian battle of Junin liberating America of all Colonial European powers for good.

If I were a british, I would not have given too much thought on it. It only reminds me of begining of the britain's lost colonial power. Losing the colonies was a big lost. India was the crown jewel, and it was gone as well.

I am also not surprised the british textbooks have different take on it. After all, Royal navy gave protection for the colonies' trade ships. The british empire fought a lot of wars and needed cash. With colonies doing well, it's only fair that they also paid for some of the miitary expenses. We can glorify the birth of US as grand independence or the greatest experiment of democracy all we want, but in the end, it is the desire of not paying taxes that trigger the revolution (yes, the republicans started American independence war, lol)

p.s. British's reaction of the whole thing can be best demonstrated by the poor reception of the screening for Mel Gibson's "The Patriots" in London. I wonder which genius thought a movie screening about American Independence in London would be a good idea. :-D

I often wondered about this when I was a student. Here is what I do know. They don't call July 4th Independence Day in England.

Seriously, I had a friend of mine from london send me an English textbook. It is told a little differently.
