I'm not talking about a needy, clingy man who sends you flowers every day and calls every 15 minutes. I'm talking about a true gentleman . . . confident, honest, healthy, respectful, successful, and romantic. Men like that have been all but banished in American society, because most women see them as being "boring", and go out of their way to hurt them and take them for granted.
Chivalry? Forget about it. If you open a door for a woman, she'll slap your face. Grab a woman that you don't even know and slap her on the backside? She'll think you're the sexiest bad boy alive.
Then women whine about how they can't find a good man. A bit hypocritical, don't you think?

Its been on the way out since the 60's. The gentlemanly manner was considered to 'establishment' for the women of the day. Women want to tame the 'bad boy'. An already civilized fellow has already set his behavior and is not edgy or cool enough. But the poorly groomed, inked, and vulgar bad boy is fun and exciting. True she is treated like poo on a boot heel, but he looks like a rockstar, and needs to be tamed and molded into her 'good boy' model. That and the programming they get from tv, film, and ugh MTV makes the prospects for a decent fellow grim indeed. But on the brighter side, this bad boy hunting behavior allows the sane among us to see that this woman is entirely unsuitable for anything serious. So rejoice in the female stubborn ways, because when you find a good woman she will want you as you are. Rumor has it that there are one or two decent women in Iowa.

oh, mike. i think you've been wasting your chivalrous nature on the wrong women. it's true that many women (primarily YOUNG women) are intrigued and turned on by the bad boy, however your example of slapping a stranger's bum is too extreme. that is NOT what women want.
we want the best of both worlds: someone who is "confident, honest, healthy, respectful, successful, and romantic" AND who is a little aloof, mysterious, unavailable at times. in addition to making us feel secure and good about ourselves, we want someone who makes us curious, who is ever so slightly unattainable, who sometimes takes two steps forward and one step back.
i am NOT suggesting that you play games, just that you examine all the signals you are putting out there because once your bad boy bravado has us hooked, we really do want you to act like a gentleman.

Hypocritical - you've got it!
The feminist movement made a few mistakes, in my opinion. They wanted to break out of a system where women were essentially downtrodden but, in doing so, they broke out too far and upset the balance.
Don't get me wrong, women should be valued and respected, in many ways as equals of men but the feminists took it to the extreme of trying to make women better than men.
Consequently, many women don't know now what they need from a man and when they find one who treats them 'right' they don't recognize it.
I blame the world wars where women first ventured out of their homes and into the factories and jobs which had previously been a 'man's world'. It all started there, in my opinion.

Gentlemen are not unappreciated. Chivalry is not dead. It's just the dynamics of male/female relationships have changed. It's just shown and accepted differently now. The ideas of gentlemanly behavior and chivalry of a hundred years ago no longer apply to society today. It's a matter of evolving with the times.

Gentlemen are very appreciated.... believe me! and romance is so NOT dead. You've been dating the wrong girls.
And chivalry? that is such a turn on! but don't try slaping my backside... that is strictly reserved for one man alone. teehee!
I can find any good man I want... and I have!
