It can be tricky to determine exactly when true labor starts. That's because these early labor contractions are sometimes hard to distinguish from the inefficient Braxton Hicks contractions that may immediately precede them and contribute to so-called "false labor." (If you're not yet 37 weeks and you're noticing contractions or other signs of labor, call your caregiver immediately so she can determine whether you're in preterm labor.)

If you're within a few weeks of your due date, try these measures:
• Change your activity or position. Sometimes walking provides relief, and other times resting eases your contractions. (Real labor contractions, on the other hand, will persist and progress regardless of what you do.)

• Take a warm bath to help your body relax.

• Try drinking a couple glasses of water, since these contractions can sometimes be brought on by dehydration.

• Try relaxation exercises or slow, deep breathing. This won't stop the Braxton Hicks contractions, but it may help you cope with the discomfort. (Use this opportunity to practice some of the pain-management strategies you learned in your childbirth preparation class.)

u don't say how many months pregnant u are ? it's possible that it could be signs of labour - i certainly had those symptoms when i went into labour, but it could also be Braxton Hicks contractions, which is basically your body's way of getting ready for the main event. if u are worried, call your midwife, or call the labour ward of the hospital that u are booked into. they will have a better idea of whether it's the real thing or not. good luck.

they sound more like braxton hicks..but it could be labour,if your worried ring ur midwife and they will give u a scan to see if your having contractions.or u could try waiting a couple of hours and having a warm bath to see if they stop.if they do it prob nothing,if it continues and gets even worse after a hour or so get ur self to hospital to be checked out
goodluck and congrats for the baby

i started off with backache right at the top of my bottom, which gradually got worse, have your waters broke/ or feeling like they are leaking? are you spotting at all?
i ask this as i went to hospital 2 weeks before my due date (it was my first baby) and they sent me home saying i still had 2 weeks to go, less than 24hrs later i pushed my babs out, so if you are worried go to the hospital or see your midwife to be examined as you could be in early stages of labour...if not then it will put your mind at ease.
good luck either way!

I felt that 1 month before i gave birth- i went to the emergency room , they ran a couple tests and in the end-it was a false alarm. But it's always best to call your doctor's office when you're concerned- better safe than sorry.. Good Luck! :o)

Having had 3 kids I would say yes, but as someone else also said it could be your braxtons please just phone your midwife or the hospital where you intend on having your child. All the best.

Go to A&E babe, don't be frightened, they won't think your stupid or anything. Better to be safe than sorry. Hope someone can get you there, if not get a taxi.

All the best
