Portmore is a municipality under government definition in early years of 2000's,therefore it is not a City, such status goes to either Kingston or Montego bay.

However interestingly enough, some estimates of the dormitory com unity in terms of its population has been put at,eg;350,000.
Portmore was originally made to house the work force of Kingston there fore making it the largest pool of well trained and skilled labour force in the entier English speaking Caribbean, that's why it was called such names as a dormitory community,as housing was hard to come by in the far flung reaches of Kingston.
However it is a Municipality, and has not yet been granted a city status officially.
