I want a hand gun for personal protection. I will not carry the gun outside of my home. I don't know a lot about guns. This will be my first purchase. I have fired handguns at target ranges, but I don't own one or know how to properly care for one. Where can I find reliable information about what to purchase, or possibly a comparison of available products? And where can I get good information about how to take care of a gun after I purchase it?

Talk to someone at your local handgun club. These guys are usually up on the local state regulations, carry permits required and most of them are pretty well familiar with most types of handguns.
Any reputable sporting goods store that carries handguns should also have very well informed staff to help you with all aspects of handgun ownership.
It is a SERIOUS business and responsibility to own any type of firearm. Think it over carefully, and if you DO decide to purchase a handgun, keep it locked UP, away from children.

Go to a shooting range, they sell guns there and you can talk to the people that work there about what kind you are looking for etc. Just do a search of your area for one.
