Don't they constantly belittle people of faith and tell us that they are dangerous?

You are right. They will say and do anything to get their agenda across. If they thought he really was a christian, they would slander him as they do all other people of faith. Do not fall for their twisted propaganda.

The problem is in your question. No one has to convince you or anyone else what faith Senator Obama is, because last I checked religious affiliation wasn't a criteria for the office of the United States. This isn't Iran. We aren't electing a Mullah.

Now, let's get to what this is really about. If people want to oppose Obama then fine oppose him, but do so because you believe he doesn't have the experience to be president. Or, and here is a leap of faith for liberals and conservatives, just be honest and say you won't support him because he is black.

Making up stuff, scarring up stuff that isn't moving America anywhere. If you are being genuinely curious go to the bookstore and buy his two best selling books and let him tell you about him.

And what if he is a Muslim, Lieberman is Jewish, Kennedy was catholic and I believe the Republicans have a Mormon thinking about entering. Who cares? Is this America or Iran? Are we electing a president or a mullah?

Oh by the way he also is a smoker (cigarettes) and that habit, like being a Muslim (which by the way he isn't) is legal.

I wasn't even going to support him but I am now. You know why? Because he is Black. Maybe that illogical action will balance out those who will oppose him for the same reason.

I don't know that anyone *is* trying to convince anyone that Obama is a Christian--nor that convincing is required. Obama states that he's a Christian, he is devout, he attends a Christian church regularly. So he's a Christian.

As a liberal Christian with conservative Christian family members, I'm actually very inspired by the fact that liberals seem free to identify with, and are inspired by, a Christian like Senator Obama. Christian conservative politics haven't really done much for the loving spreading of Christian faith.

Finally, many, many of us liberals are Christians. I'm pretty confident that Christian liberals do not belittle people of faith. I suppose most of those liberals who *do* belittle some Christians and say that they're dangerous are talking specifically about those Christians they believe are sinners grasping the power of the pulpit to spread hate.

You're right, religious faith is dangerous. But, religious faith in the hands of a fundamentalist who holds a high-ranking office is far, far more dangerous than religious faith in the hands of a moderate or progressive individual who is not trying to use the power of their office to promote religious fundamentalism. We've had more than enough of the former for the last few years.

Barak Obama is a practicing Christian. As an atheist myself, believe me, I'd much rather he were not. It would be nice to see an ethical secular candidate running for the office of President. But the people on this site who are insisting that exposure to Islam in Obama's early childhood trumps all other possible religious persuasions for the man are being disingenuous. Further, they insist that his middle name, Hussein, somehow proves the point. That's like saying that if your name is Britney you must be an idiot blond, or if your name is Ted you must be a serial killer. Ridiculous.

Rather than seeing him for what he is--an American success story, a man of colorful mixed heritage with a broad, well-rounded education, a product of the good things America represents--they choose to seize on ridiculous superficialities to smear him, thereby demonstrating their unreasoning bigotry, and all of the bad things America represents. If your question is asked because you've been listening to them, please stop, and judge the man on the merits of his record and character. As you would want yourself to be judged.

It is interesting as we are not allowed by law to express our faith openly in schools and other open places, as Christians, as it is not proper and infringes on the rights of others. So who would be conned into caring about this guy being a Christian as a reason to vote for him, it is his policies that he supports that say weather he is worth voting for or NOT

You must be kidding. If Obama is, indeed, a Muslim he doesn't stand a chance for becoming the US president, that is if he runs.
Who in his/her right mind would vote for a Muslim for US president? After what I have been learning about the Muslim faith I wouldn't want one for a friend and I am a pretty liberal guy.

Because of his name they want to make sure that we know he is not of the Islamic faith. His Father was Islamic but not his Mother & he took his Mother's faith. He really isn't trying to preach, just keep the record straight.

People of faith are not dangerous.

People of faith who want to turn their religious beliefs into laws are dangerous.

Yes, Obama is a christian, and not a christian fundamentalist. Do you know what the difference is?
