I currently live in Florida now, but I will be moving (most likely) into this region in August to get closer to home (WA), amung many other reasons like weather, landscape, architecture (my profession), proximity to Pacific Ocean, outdoor activities, more casual people, etc. I've begun a search for a great town, not too big not too small, but thought I should weigh out the benefits of each State's residency. For example, I know Oregon does not have sales tax. Please give me your opinion if you are a resident of this area or know it well, in concerns to property & income tax, and whatever else you can think of that might influence my move! Thank you so much! This will be a big big decision for my life!

LOL, I am a bit surprised to be the second person recommending the Coos Bay, OR area! It is "the" urban area on the southern oregon coast .... total population of the combined towns and area is less than 50,000 .... it has the feel of a very small town, yet has cultural events, stage theater, art and music festivals, and is large enough area that you shouldn't have any trouble in your profession. It is also big enough to have decent shopping, and is a two hour drive from Eugene if you need a "city fix".

If you live in the country, just a few miles in from the city of Coos Bay, the weather is better ... like when its foggy on the west side of town, if you live east of the city you likely will have sun. Just be prepared for the wind. It rarely stops.

Another area worth looking in to is Brookings, which is just north of the california border, on the oregon side. Because of it's location, it gets the most sun of all the west coast between san francisco and canada. It is a very tiny town, around 4,000 or so, but has a lot to offer. Definitely check it out.

I lived in coos bay Oregon for about 5 years. Its very scenic and most the time fairly decent weather...but there are periods of ,weeks, it will do nothing but rain..rain hard too..I am not sure if you like seeing the trees change color in the fall but its green all the time. some times it will snow, but usually in the coastal mountains.. land prices were very good , at least that's my opinion.. and things are fairly cheap.. IE food services etc.. hope this helps.. I know that I absolutely loved picking the wild mushrooms, and the walks on the beaches.. and the 4X4 ing is aw some...damn it .. makes me wish I was back there. where ever you end up good luck
