No question about it.
The original intent was to increase scoring. It has resulted in the exact opposite. Scoring is way down from were it was before the 3 point shot was implemented. Field goal percentage is also way down. It's also slowed the game way down.
It has taken away from good fundemental basketball (ball movement, shooting the highest ptg shot, etc...).
Even one of the greatest 3 point shooters ever, Larry Bird was not a big fan of the shot, although he used it to his advantage many, many times. He said if a team was up by 2 points at the end of the game, it shouldn't lose to one basket.

I think so. All the experts say it depends on the system which it obviously does, but from watching about an hour and a half of college basketball today, every team is just jacking it up from long range. I watched a little of Depaul vs. Louisville today and Terrence Williams (L'Ville) was on a fast break with only 1 defender on him and he just pulled up for a 3 and hit front iron and it went out of bounds. Just ridiculous. I know my favorite team, Notre Dame, is basically based on the 3 point shot. They spend more than half of their recruiting time looking for guys that can shoot from long distance. Against Georgetown (which was a game they lost), they took 18 3's in the first half alone! They made 2 of them!
Teams have to start using big men. Really the only teams that use their big men are North Carolina with Tyler Hansbrough, Nevada with Nick Fazekas (who by the way attempts 7 3's a game, a big man shooting 7 3's a game!), and Texas with Kevin Durant. I'm a big fan of those amazing drives that end up in dunks or reverse layups and I'm seeing so much less of it...

yes jus last night cleveland was using it in the game against the nuggets when cleveland was done by i think 10 points they kept depending on the 3 point shots bcuz they were hot a minnute ago behind the line to catch up with the nuggest but hwen it was time to pass them instead of going to the rim with some shots n sum files they went wit the 3 pointers n lost
