I don't know how old he is but if he is over 18 its time to boot him out if he doesn't get a job. But if he is a minor then boot him off network. Yes his downloads are slowing you down. Yes so can someone steal it. Put an encryption on your router.

Yeah, he'll slow you down. As can anyone surfing on your wireless. Enable encryption -- and don't give him the key. Your router's docs have full instructions on how to do that. And if he's downloading copyrighted material, YOU are the account holder so YOU will be held to task if the RIAA gets a hair up their butts.

If he is using a P2P program (limewire, bittorrent, etc.) then yes, he is slowing down your internet connection. One of the things you could do would be to turn on MAC addressing in your router settings (can't really tell you how since they are all different) and once you do that, he won't be able to connect from the desktop.

Or you could close the ports that his downloading programs use, which would stop him as well. That may be the better option, since you could just tell him that your ISP doesn't allow those types of programs and automatically closes off the ports if it finds them in use.

You bet it can slow down your signal, but what you can do is encrypt your wireless signal and not give the passkey out to him. Make sure you do at least WPA as WEP is crackable in 2 minutes or less. If you need further help email me.

Yes, he IS slowing down your connection when he's downloading stuff.

Make him pay for the internet connection. $50. That way he'll have to go out and work too! :)

Of course your nephew's downloading is slowing down your speed. If you do not have a secure router - yes that will slow you down as well.

yes and yes.

Limit the amount of bandwidth going through the wireless or give yourself more priority on the router. Add some security to the router (WPA2 - AES - Disable SSID - MAC filter - etc).

yes he is slowing down your internet. Yes you should kick him out. Tell him if he doesn't stop, and get a job in a month, he's gone. No buts, just kick him straight out the house.
