I just bought this laptop and its running slow....?

Question

Its actually an old laptop a tecra780 DVD. Its like 10 years old. I bought this because i wanted to try a software. and this software only runs under old operating system(windows 2000). Its a really slow computer. For a system start up takes about 10 mins . To load a page about 5 mins . Its super slow. Why is that? And how can i fix it?
But first tell me why?

Could be you have too many programs eating up space.

Could be adware.

Could be damaged parts.

Could be not enough memory or hard drive space.

Well its slow because its 10 years old but there are some ways to free up some more memory. Your laptop probably lacks enough RAM to accomplish small tasks with other background tasks running at the same time. I never had Windows 2000 so I am unsure if these steps can be followed exactly, but you need to bring up your task manager (ctrl, alt, delete) and end all the programs listed under your computers name ( not the system processes) except taskmanager.exe and explorer.exe. This will free up some RAM and hopefully increase your computers performance.

Because it's an old system. Do you have any idea how much technology has advanced in 10 years. Ten years ago pentiums were acceptable. It probably has 256 mb ram, maybe less. Ram is probably your issue plus size of your hard drive. Plus processor speed. Processor speed has grown exponentially over ten years. Check the hardware specs adn if they are anything less than 256 mb ram (really, no less than 512), less than 20 gb hd or less than a pentium 3 - toss it out the window.
