I see nothing wrong with country music. There is much worse music out there. Many country singers are very famous (I don't even need to mention who these people are) in pop music. A lot of rock bands show a strong country influence. Why do people say they hate country?

most of those people still think country is that " old twangy" crap from the 40 and 50s myself i am not a big fan of most country but i wouldnt say i dont like it. At least there is some originality in it unlike "crap" music which is just music stolen from other people and no story is told

I am assuming that when people say that it is because their opinion of music is such that they don't like country music. Some people don't like techno which also recieves a comparable amount of backlash. Im can't wait until their's a backlash against hip hop so we can get back to real hip hop.
I also think it has to do with how much people in America generalize music and most other things. Sorry for the long answer.

Because people are ridulously narrow-minded about music? Most people think of the redneck associations with country music, which is honestly very stupid of them, and sometimes they think it's just limited to the old-school twangy stuff. I suppose a lot of people just dislike the subject matter and music. I don't personally like it, but I haven't really been exposed to it and I know there are a couple songs by the Dixie Chicks I like.

you know thats' way too true. i guess a lot of people say they dislike country music because they think country is too soft and mellow and sometimes they may even have the most cheesiest lyrics. however, i think the real truth is that many people haven't even heard of any good country songs and just base their dislike just for the sake of it.
one great example is in teenagers. the majority wants to be in style and they want music that appeals to them. their friends have alot of influence on them as well. often enough, their music tastes fall to hip hop, pop, rock, etc. (what's HOT and new)country doesn't even come close to mind because it isn't that popular to them therefore, making it seem distasteful. And that is why people (especially teens) say they *hate* country.

There's a big backlash against country because of the accents and the twang and the hick couture or whatever. I like some country songs but not country in general.

well i personally like counrty very much at least cmt plays music unlike other channels that claim to play music and do nothing but show stupid dating shows(mtv) but anyway i think it has to do a lot with the fact that a lot of people think it is white peoples music which they just need to get over and quit being so stereotypical

That is true. Many of my friends and teachers say that they like all kind of music except country. I have no idea of what is wrong with them because country music is the best!!!!!!!

cause mostly never listen to it cause it's not "cool".most people just like what's cool,i like country and that's what i will always like.
