Yes.....He and Sammy Sosa gave us a reason to watch baseball again. It really help to get the respect of the fans back after the strick and lockout.

Based on power #'s he is one of baseballs best but he was average in most other parts of the game. I realize that a lot of people blame steroids for him not getting elected and that may be true but there are others that think it was his overall game that stopped some voters from giving him the nod. Obviously he used steroids and of course cheaters usually get little sympathy but we also need to keep in mind that baseball was well aware that him and many others other used but they looked the other way because he revived baseball after the lockout. Lets be realistic, even Pres. Bush (who owned the Rangers) was okay with paying Jose Canseco big money knowing full well he was using (he was involved with the team so nobody with any brains could argue the team was unaware...they do take physicals very year and a lot of the using was done in the luxury of clubhouses). Everyday fans could figure it out so dont think for a second Bush wasnt aware. Canseco sold tickets and money seems to make owners blind, just like when McGwire made them boatloads of money. I find it amazing how quickly they were willing to throw McGwire, Sosa, Bonds, etc.... under the bus when some congressmen got uptight but didnt mind before then. If they werent conducting a witchhunt to bring down Bonds most of this would have been swept under the carpet and McGwire would be going to the Hall next to Ripken and Gwynn.

The HOF is full of cheaters. Don Sutton, Jim Perry, etc.
He has not been proven to be a cheater, they have. He should be in, as should Jim Rice, Pete Rose and many others.
Even if he used steroids, that is not as bad as doctoring the ball. When steroids first were developed they were used to better the body much as weightlifting does. Altering equipment is far worse.

Yes!!! Although I have to be biased when I answer this question because you have to understand, I was a 13 year old boy when he went on his record breaking home run chases. I hate players who cheat, however, with all of the memories that McGwire gave me, I could not keep him out.

Pros- He hit alot of homeruns; was on a world championship team.
Cons- Average hitter; average fielder, never won an MVP, people are holding the steroids issue against even though steroids were not illegal during his career.

No. Even though he hit 580+ HRs, he had a .260 batting average. Hitting HRs dont always guarantee you in the HOF. It is getting hits, HRs, and fielding. Plus: he probably used Steroids!

NO
Obviously he's a cheat. Look at him today, he's a shadow of the man he once was when he was juiced.
Don't we already honor enough lying and cheating people in our government? Why would we want to honor them in our sports too?
