Always always always part on good terms. Remember you may need a reference in the future. If you work in a small job sector and you go out with all guns blazing, word may get out and you will struggle to find work in that particular field of employment. It's a small world!

Your boss is running a business not a day care center to handle people's emotions. It's his problem. Just resign and work out a fair time in which you can agree upon so that he has a couple of weeks to find a replacement for you.

That depends on why you are resigning my friend.....
....got another job then what the hell do you care about what your boss thinks
....done something terribly wrong then your boss will either take it on the chin, bust a gut or collapse
At the end of the day of you are intent on leaving then then suck in your chest, tell yourself you are a better person for doing this. Any reaction from your boss is temporary and you'll both get over it.

Usually there is a notice period you need to give to your boss if you are leaving your job. At least, give them that courtesy. In terms of how your boss feels about you leaving, you have no control over that. However, consider the effect of a resignation (as opposed to being laid off) on your eligibility for unemployment insurance benefits.

Do it politely and thank your boss for support/opportunties they have afforded you while you were there. Don't burn any bridges as you never know who you might encounter in the future.
Perhaps do it on a Friday so that your boss will have time to cool down over the weekend if you're really worried.

What's the worse he can do ??? Fire you ???
If you think he might get violent, take one of your workmates in with you as a witness.
If your Boss is a real case & you are going to 'resign' because of bullying / intimidation / unwanted sexual advances, go to a Solicitor instead & inform him you are too scared to go onto work.

1) pack anything of yours up before you inform the boss
2) two weeks ahead of the date you intend to quit, write a letter explaining that you're resigning, and put it on the boss' desk

You are resigning!!, who cares what he thinks, Be polite and ask for a word, hand him your resignation and tell him what it is. He asks why? , U say the pay is rubbish, got a better offer, whatever you reason is. Who cares!!!. Enjoy the moment, look forward to new job and enjoy your life (remember they are only jobs, one door shuts, another door opens!). He gets nasty, tell em to stick it!

Unless you're afraid of violence, who cares how you boss reacts, you are leaving anyway!
Without knowing your situation, I suggest you take precautions by removing anything you might need from your workplace before handing in your notice.
