Jeans may possibly shrink slightly the first time you wash them. After that they should not. I wash my jeans on a very hot wash, and tumble dry them and they never shrink. Alternatively, you can do what folks did before the advent of washing machines;- wear them when you have a bath, give them a good soaping and if necessary rinse off under the shower or clean bath water;and take off and hang on the washing line to dry.

Not a nice person, so don't believe em'.
When new -- Jeans that are 100% cotton and not pre-washed shrink a significant amount when washed. Jeans that are 100% cotton and pre-washed shrink a titch-bit.
When rewashed, the fibers will tighten up, then they are dried in that manner. So when you first put them on again they feel tighter. However, they loosen up again when worn.

Unless it states on the label "Preshrunk cotton" they will shrink. How much depends on the cotton content. Even if you use cold water. Sometimes they will bag out again after a few days wearing them.
Now that we get most of our clothes off-shore, check the label no matter what the item of clothing is. I don't put anything in the dryer that I don't want to get shrunk.
If no basement, hang in your shower area, or on a hanger on the back of a door.

All 100 percent cotton fabric will shrink after washed and dried.Unless the manufacturer Pre-shrank it before putting it on the shelves. Try to wash in cold water and air dry to prevent some of the shrinkage.

That is because jeans are made with cotton which shrinks when heated. That can also happen if you wash them in hot water.
Best thing to do is to either air dry in your dryer or hang them up to drip dry.

Jeans used to shrink because they were made of cotton denim, now they put so much crap in them to make them stretch your nice fitting jeans are falling off you by lunch. I'm still mad at Levi-Strauss for moving out of America.

Some of them do, especially those with stretch. I know its not me growing because sometimes I dry jeans and not only do they not fit right around the waist, but they are too short...and I know I'm not growing taller too...I quit doing that a long time ago :)

The material gets tighter, but when it's worn it gets more flexible and is eventually just the right fit. The original jeans were meant to fit perfectly, so people would wear jeans in the shower and then let them dry to fit their body.
