What do you think?
I think there has to be a connection some where to the windows and the viruses. Since apparently this does not happen with MACS. You know like may be the manufactures who make the costly up dates and want to coax people into buying their costly upgrades by frusterating people into updating via the use of viruses and the fear of losing your lifes savings.. Some will say it is a conspiracy theory but follow the money who benefits when viruses infect systems? Some say the hacker but really so does windows or microsoft because you have to up date then or buy new. I have also have noticed that there is advanced notice of new viruses announced on the news before they appear with a release date. Are they physic? how can they know what joe blow computer hacker is planning?
Also coincidental that even though computers and viruses are so complex that an average Joe blow in Caynan knows more about how to infect MS Win that our educated than MS employees knows to fix it HMMMM

I have heard that some major anti virus sellers are paying up for certain kinds of virus infections. Adds nicely to sales. About spam, stats tell us that some 10% of sales letter receivers actually buy or at least try to after receiving spam. Also, the so called "Nigerian letters" are a concern. Some folks respond to these outrageous propositions, greed is always a good starting point to a ripoff. For the alleged psychic qualities of antivir companies, read the aforementioned. Why is Windows so popular target? Because it is the major platform at this time. Some 90% of computers are fitted with Win. That, and the fact that Windows is not very sophisticated in the security department by nature of its initial construction. We people are easy to lure to buy a new operating system by adding some useless stuff to it that no one really needs, and ignore some well needed upgrades in security and overall usability. We should demand for more bang for our buck. Also, it is ridiculous to tell people that spam sources can not be traced back and blocked. Big corporations and government have left us alone in this matter. I guess there are no big profits to be made from this...

Well my perspective of this topic would be yes many peopel benefit from computer viruses especailly the people who are fixing the computers once your computer is infected with spyware and viruses...the people who create antivirus software they get a lot of money its stupid but that's how things work around the world...there's a lot of smart people out there and probably these companies create senarios of what could be a possible next virus or more complex virus with more skill then they find a way to delete it or find it if someone sends these viruses out ...but that's what i look at it...

Viruses are sometimes bought from the criminals - what do you think the idea of a computer screen blacking out with a screen saver came from? it was a virus by a teenager - and it was bought for millions -
and yes companies are benifiting, but you shouldnt be too scared - if you are cautious and smart, nothing will happen -
and viruses are too easy to make - google a program, look for a weak link in its code and create a virus that exploits that point-

cheers

Spyware software people are trying to help protect. Do you really think the Norton developers would send viruses out there. Mac's don't usually get a virus because 99% of viruses are written for Internet Explorer.

75 % of all viruses are created accidentally and are not intentional. You are right viruses are a pain and do not really benefit anyone.

You may have heard of the "Smiley" virus created accidentally by a bunch of teenagers who created a Screen Saver.

The other viruses may be spam, advertising or just to destroy PC's.
Some will reveal personal data about you via your PCs records...
