seattle is not that close to vancouver where the nhl would have a problem with that.--i doubt seattle people drive to vancouver for hockey.--but if one teams wants to re-locate then if investors in seattle think they can make a go of it then they'll do it.--ask bill gates he has dough

Despite the notion of not really being a hockey town, Seattle does have some hockey history. The Seattle Metropolitans were the first American team to win the Stanley Cup (in 1917), and the Totems were a stable franchise in the old Western Hockey League of the '50s and '60s. The WHL offices were in Seattle too. The Seattle Thunderbirds hosted the Memorial Cup in 1992, and despite Tacoma's inability to support a WHL (junior) team, the Everett Silvertips are a good bet to win the WHL title this season IMO (and,, 8,277 in attendance Friday night, thumbs up).
Seattle was actually granted an NHL expansion franchise with Denver for the 1976-77 NHL season, but the deal fell through when it was realized that money was short. (The Denver bid was replaced by the relocation of the Kansas City Scouts in 1976).
As for today, little consideration has been given (actually I've heard more about Portland than Seattle).. Probably 'cause KeyArena is a total dive when it comes to watching hockey games. It really is a basketball venue, and outdated at that.

Because If Seattle gets an NHL team then Vancouver would want one too. LOL. Hey finally have one this year. Looks like they will make the playoffs.
Seriously, a NHL team should be in Seattle but the NHL brass are more concerned with other locations closer to the centers of the universe like New York and Toronto.

This is the first I've ever heard anyone desire a hockey team in Seattle. My guess is that Vancouver having a team, and being so close to Seattle is a large reason a franchise hasn't moved there. To further complicate matters, I don't think the NHL is in a position financially to expand any time soon.
Sorry if you're a Seattle hockey fan. I'd recommend you embrace the Cunucks.
PS: Go Wild!

first of all, preacher55, seattle does have an NFL team, in fact they played (and lost) against Pittsburgh in the SUPER BOWL last year. Seattle doesn't have a team because the NHL has no money and Vancouver is so close

I'm going to post to Habitabnt here:
The Canes sold tickets really well during the playoffs. All games were uhh... Sold out. before the game. You could get SRO tickets, but there's not a limit on those. You could also buy $20 tickets (unlimited) to watch on big screen TVS outside the RBC center. Those sold well too. Inside every game in the 06 series was sold out, Carolina or Edmonton.
As for the question, As many others have said, Vancouver is so close, not to mention that the NHL is rebuilding right now. They don't have the money. Tehy might get one eventually, but not right now.
Besides, how would they organize the divisions?

Don't have a modern rink and never has been any demand for an NHL team. Has any big spender or the city ever expressed and interest in getting an NHL team?
Anyway, Tip Man, I'll be down there on the 28th to check out your arena there in Everett.

they wouldn't be able to support an NHL team they wont have the fans to fill the arena period. heck Phoenix, Anaheim, San Jose, Carolina, Florida, Columbus, Nashville, this teams don't even sell out and look at the season the Ducks, Sharks and Preds are having and still empty seats in the arena. and last years Stanley cup champs the Carolina Hurricanes, you were able to go on game day of the playoffs and buy a ticket to the game that night. these teams simply don't deserve an NHL team period, and within the next 10 to 20 years this teams will be relocated cause these teams are simply not making any money, yes the Ducks, Sharks and Preds are having a great season but in the next 2 to 3 years will be back in the bottom of the standings cause they will not be able to support the team they have now come contract time.

Nobody really cares about hockey in Seattle. Anyways, I live in Vancouver and I consider Seattle Seahawks and Seattle Mariners to be my home team since it's so close to Vancouver. So going back to your question, they're called the Vancouver Canucks!

They don't have an NFL team, so why should they have an NHL team ? Don't forget , hockey is a contact sport. That's something that Seattle seems to fear.
