Joint. Tax brackets are more favorable jointly versus head of household. If you are claiming standard deduction, the joint standard deduction is also higher than the head of household. Finally, the number of personal exemptions if head of household would be three (your husband and your two kids). If you filed jointly, it would be 4. Each personal exemption is worth $3,300.

My Daughter and her Husband ask the same question when they filed taxes last year. They have a 2 year old and my Daughter doesn't work. They got more back by filing joint. Her Husband was head of household and did not go over the income limit to collect earned income..They got a nice check back..So I suggest filing joint.

Easy.....jointly.

This is because "Head of Household" is not even available to you if you are married and you live with your spouse! Head of Household is a filing status that is generally reserved for single people whom are supporting another person; not for married people.
