can you play a regular xbox game on the xbox 360?
i want to buy ddr but i cant seem to find it on xbox360, could i just buy the xbox one for my 360?

yes but not all games are compatible see this website http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/backwardcompatibilitygameslist.htm
for the list of compatible games - they keep adding more so check back from time to time

Hm ... let's see ...
I heard that Microsoft said the XBox will be "backward compatible with top-selling Xbox games". This is implying that not all games for the XBox are going to work with the XBox 360.
I think ther coming out with Dance Dance Revolution Universe sometime this year if you want to wait!
