I didn't realise that Alfa's lasted any longer than 6 months from build (sorry, must think trading standards) THROWN together.

I gotta defend this beautiful car! Do any of the bods who've answered so far actually OWN an Alfa156? I've had my 2001 car for a couple of years & it's been totally reliable. It's one of the best looking 4 door cars ever made & is much nicer to drive than a BMW 3 series. Any secondhand car can be a gamble & if you buy a cheap Alfa it'll be a turkey, just like anything else. Get a good one from an Alfa dealer or a specialist & you'll be sorted.

My Alfa's a '99 - and she's a beauty. Never had a problem with her. Even though she's gotten on a bit, she still has that lively rasp whenever i depress the accelerator, and the stance of a stallion!
I heard alot of people complaining about Alfa's - all of whom never even owned one.
If you want a car just to do its job and be your mule, buy a BMW. If want to get into a relationship and really appreciate and look after your car, get an Alfa.

Fingers crossed we never will!!!

They are horribly unreliable, but very pretty.

Like any car they can go wrong, but the parts take ages to get, so a simple fault takes weeks to resolve.

Plus the Alfa dealers have the lowest customer satisfaction of any make for servicing issues.

beatiful car. buy a 2 litre t-spark and it will sound like a ferrari under acceleration.. amazing sounding engine.

Find a good independant alfa specialist for repairs. On average if you drive about 200-400 miles a week, you can expect to need to book it in the garage once or twice a month for attention/repairs to the engine.. they are very fragile.

All Alfas are wonderfully designed and innovative cars - so they do go wrong. They are a true enthusiasts car being a guy who spends more time underneath then he does driving.

rear suspention arms and rear hub bushes
are the main problem there always going
the engine under tray if you loose that dont bother to replace it cause youll only brake it on the same speed bump
get it optilined every new set of front tyres
and check your oil every time you fill the tank as they will use a ltr of oil every 1000 miles
get the cambelt checked every 36000 miles regardless.
thats all i can think of for now

Other than total undependability, wiring and electrical systems from the dark ages, zero resale value and numerous fuel, valve, suspension and transmissions gremlins that will leave you stranded on the roadside so much you will consider buying a tow truck as a second car, ...no.
On the upside, it's still better than a Peugeot.
