The polite thing is to ask her what kind of food she likes, or if she has a preferred restaurant.

How about a BYO in your area?
You bring your own wine, alcohol or beer (savin' money there) and get a fabulous meal.

I would NOT reccomend places like Chilli's or Olive Garden. Any place that issues coupons should be a no-no for dates.

I believe places like "The Melting Pot" or "The Chart House" can be found in numerous cities. It's a low cost fine dining option. All with a la carte selections.

You should take her to a restaurant where you have to wait a little while for your food so that you can have a conversation. Try looking around town, in the yellow pages and on the web for places that are cheaper.

You wanna go somewhere that serves normal American food, but also gives her the option of getting something different. If you go to just an Italian place or Mexican food place, then that is the only option. and if you are trying to save a little cash then I would definitely go with Chili's.
